A VERY SPECIAL AND VERY LIMITED RELEASE FROM BEAU
You may well know that Beau's debut album was the second release on John Peel's Dandelion label, back in 1969; you may also know that Beau (aka Trevor Midgley) has made the occasional appearance on the Fruits de Mer label over the years, both as a solo artist and as part of the sixties band 'The Raiders'; for instance, he recreated his classic song 'Silence Returns' with the help of the provider of the track's original corrosive electric guitar, Tractor's Jim Milne, on The Honey Pot and friends' set 'Ascending Scales'.
But did you know that Beau also headlined the first gig Fruits de Mer helped promote - in Lichfield in 2012 - an event organised by Chris McGranaghan, of Those Old Records?
Imagine my susrpise when Trevor got in touch a few weeks back to tell me he'd found a recording of his set, and would I be interested in hearing it?
It is pure, unadulterated, English folk - just Beau and his 12-string guitar, playing to an appreciative audience.
Very quickly, a plan for an 8" EP emerged, with four songs from the gig - very limited and with the bonus of an A3 reprint of the original gig poster, signed by Beau himself!
The tracks are:
side 1 - St. Elizabeth of Hungary (from the album 'Edge Of The Dark')
/ Kiss Me With Your Eyes (from 'The Way It Was')
side 2 - Today Began A Thousand Years Ago (from 'The Way It Was')
/ Where Is Your Gun, My Son? (from 'The Way It Was')
We will inevitably be heavily oversubscribed for this release - so there will be a 'lucky draw' in early September amongst everyone who has registered an interest and you'll get an email from me if your name is drawn out exlaining how to claim your copy (PLEASE EMAIL ME NOW - fruitsdemer7@hotmail.com - TO GET YOUR NAME INTO THE HAT - LAST NAMES WILL GO INTO THE HAT ON SEPTEMBER 8th!).
Beau's lathe-cut will cost £15 if you're in the UK and you've ordered the new LPs by Crystal Jacqueline and/or Us and Them (as I can send it out at the same time); it will cost £17 inc. p&p if you haven't.
I will handle non-UK orders too for this release - again please email me to register your interest - the cost will be £15 + whatever the postal cost is to your country (parcels will be sent with a customs form valuing the record at £15)
