SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERENT FROM FRUITS DE MER
Back in 2019, I released an EP called 'An Absolute Shower' - four of my comedy heroes on vinyl - just for the hell of it.
A few years on, and it feels like time for something equally random - so here comes 'Not Of This World', a little collection of music from 1962 (and therefore conveniently out of copyright) that sort of invokes the spirit of The Tornados' 'Telstar' but, in my humble opinion, is much better and certainly much more 'out there'.
I'm out of my depth, of course, I'm definitely no expert on 'space-pop', or whatever it's called, but I listened to an awful lot of frogs before settling on these princes; maybe some of the tracks are more 60s garage than space-pop but, if they are, they're years ahead of their time; the 'Space Patrol' excerpts aren't pop music at all but they seemed like a fun way to sandwich the actual songs and I loved and was scared of 'Space Patrol' in equal proportions when I was a 5 year old, so any excuse to feature them on an FdM release!
There are three 'songs' on the 7" EP - from The Space Walkers, The Black Albinos and The Phantoms - I might tell you what the tracks are at some point, but I might not.
There'll be a random mix of black, white, red and clear vinyl - just like the records themselves, it'll be the luck of the draw as to what you get (if anything).
How can you claim a copy? There are only 61 copies being cut, and as ever with FdM lathe-cuts, it'll be oversubscribed so there'll be a lucky draw amongst everyone who expresses an interest in getting hold of a copy - just email me - fruitsdemer7@hotmail.com - with 'Not Of This World' as the subject-line and your name will go straight into the hat.
Why 61 copies? It was going to be 60 but Phil, who hand-cuts the discs at 345rpm.com, asked for one for his collection!
The records will be sent out in November, I'll close the lucky draw at the end of October.
The EPs will cost £12 inc P&P if you're in the UK, more than that if you're not (I'll have to work out the postage cost depending on where you live).
