HAPPY HALLOWEEN (IT'S BEHIND YOU...)
Feels like it's about time for a Fruits de Mer lathe-cut that bears little or no relation to our policy of psychedelia, krautrock, progressive rock, folk rock, downtempo, spacerock...(as if that's not enough for any self-respecting music fan)
Halloween is coming, so how about an EP that features four bands from the beginning of the sixties that you've probably never heard of, playing tracks you might not have heard before either...BUT...
...they all feature a fair bit of screaming (where does he get these ideas from?)
Introducing to Fruits de Mer...
The Tomko's - The Spook
Ralph Nielsen and the Chancellors - Scream
The Tornados - Scalping Party
The Pharaohs - The Green Werewolf
Need a bit more of a hard-sell? Ok, so the tracks are probably best described as R&B/rockabilly/garage, although I'm way out of my depth here - they pre-date 60s US punk by several years but they are fairly edgy/a bit out-there for their time - they're instrumentals (more or less) and they're definitely not versions of 'Monster Mash'!
Check the tracks out on YouTube - I reckon at least a couple of them are classics; they're certainly not what you might expect from Fruits de Mer - and there are only 61 copies, so the whole thing is either highly collectible or a complete aberration - you can choose - buy or ignore completely..
Copies of 'Scream And Scream Again'will only be offered to people on an FdM mailing-list and it will be another luck-of-the-draw job, depending on how many people get in touch asking for a copy.
More news soon - full details of how and how to stake a claim to a copy will be included in a Fruits de Mer email sometime in September...
