The Beatles' White Album - bit of a classic? yep
So Fruits de Mer has decided to pay its respects to it with eight great artists re-creating songs exclusively for this release.
And what a line-up! The Pretty Things' stunning version of 'Helter Skelter' is worth the price of admission on its own ("as moody as a hoodie with toothache" - Record Collector) and there's much, much more, from bare acoustic to full-on psychedelia to..........Cranium Pie (you really wouldn't want to live next door to these guys).
So, what exactly IS Fruits de Mer's White EP? 2 x 7" white vinyl (naturally), gatefold sleeve and sequentially-numbered (totally unoriginally), I even got the pressing plant to emboss the FdM name on the front as a double-act of ego-massaging and financial folly - yes, all-in-all, it's a bit of a tribute, only smaller.
